Florida Windmap

Living near the coast can be advantageous, but if your building falls within a wind-borne debris region, it is crucial to ensure that the replacement windows and doors meet the Florida Building Code's requirements for glazed opening protection. In Florida, communities situated within one mile of the coastal mean high water line, where windspeeds reach 130 mph or higher, or anywhere with wind speeds of 140 mph or greater, are designated as wind-borne debris regions under the Florida Building Code.

For any structure in these areas, some form of opening protection is necessary, such as impact-resistant windows or doors or shutters that have received Florida Product Approval. Structures located in Miami-Dade or Broward counties must meet additional requirements to receive a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA). The Miami-Dade testing protocol and review process is the strictest in the country, and obtaining a Miami-Dade NOA is regarded as the most stringent standard for impact-resistant products.
